Claws and Teeth by hibbary Claws and Teeth by hibbary
Super speedy color doodle. I want to set aside a half an hour or an hour every night just to do something fast and not work related. So far so good. :x

Yeaaah but it's just because dragons and things are something I've been drawing for a very long time.

Well I guess that makes sense. So how have these non-work type drawings been going for you?

Freaking great! Every time I do them I think: My God, why don't I do more of these? But most of the time I'm just too burn out feeling to begin.

I'm getting those "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" vibes off of this shit...............

and that movie premieres THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!!:woohoo:

Too bad I won't see it, I'm tired from a long work week and I don't have any money, it's trapped in my acct and I can't get any access to it until my dumb-ass bank str8ens that mess out.

I saw it yesterday and it was very silly. But I had expected that so it was all good.

Banks can be really annoying about that stuff. :(

It can be either! Some of it was good-silly and some was awful-silly.

I thought it took half an hour just to get the colour inside the lines xD but yes very good, I try so hard to see how you made it, I feel like I'm blind because I really cannot see how you managed to use hues to create values :3 especially since I haaate using the colour picker.

If you use sneaky photoshop tricks it takes about ten seconds to get the color inside the lines. :)

Oh c: so you use a "closed" lineart as in there is a space inside that can be quick selected? that I do but mostly I want to fast colour sketchy lines with no complete closure :3 is there a trick to that too?

In this case so much of the figure took up the canvas that I selected the space outside. When it comes to sketchy, open lines I'll just quickly paint in a flat color underneath and lock the layer.

Naaaaww I bet it took more like an hour. I don't really time myself with these things. Also my arting is much dispersed with many impulsive clicks of email and the like. So it's hard to say!

Only when it comes to something I'm familiar with. If I were doing figurative work or architecture it'd take me a lot longer. T_T

30 minutes?  To do this?  Mother of god =____=;;

What are you doing to get the subtle skin texture?  Some kind of watercolor overlay?

WHOOPS! I sent my reply off before I answered your question. It's a piece of paper I sprayed with black spray paint and scanned in. I set it on overlay for a little bit of texture.

Psht!  I've been drawing practically the same way for years and it still takes me like an hour to finish something, at very least.  It's hard to tell with a finished product, but do you do a sketch and then lineart on top?  Or do you just whip these lines out from the get-go?  Sketch -> Ink is usually what takes me the most time.

I do a very rough sketch and 'ink' over it, but for something like this the inking is pretty rough. If you look close you can see how scribbly it is. :F

The lines blend so well in places with the coloring that it's honestly hard to see.  The lines that are clear look pretty smooth o_o  I've always had a rough go at making lineart that blends with the coloring...it always just looks kind of awkward, so I stick with black lines XD  I'll have to emulate someone one of these days and see if I can't get the hang of it.

Thanks for posting stuff like this!

I did the lines in grey and set them to multiply, so they aren't as obtrusive as black lines.

I know how you feel. It's taken me years of doing linework to make something that I find even slightly tolerable. It's hard.

...Wait...seriously?  Grey lines and multiply?

Please excuse me while I go sit in a corner and weep for not having thought of that years ago.  It's so simple...

You could also do black lines, set it to multiply, and take down the opacity for a similar effect. There are a lot of different ways to do it. I like to fiddle around in photoshop. Anyway, try it out and tell me how it goes :F
