Feathered dragon by hibbary Feathered dragon by hibbary
We can thank the dragon legend, in part, to the discovery of dinosaur bones by ancient people. We're discovering new things about various dinosaur species every day and I thought it would be fun to incorporate some of those new findings into a dragon design--a mix of new and old.

There is on www.khimeros.com  The owner bought the linework. You'd have to get it through the site though.

Yup. I read the Jurassic Park novels last year and couldn't help but think "they should have feathers!" :)

How on earth do you make those wings so perfect?! I'm currently stumped on how I'm going to make the wings for a dragon I'm drawing for my boyfriend, would I be able to use these beautiful creations as a reference? I think his dragon would look amazing with feathered wings.

I looked at references :F Yeah, you can use them. Also google is a good resource for images. I don't mean stealing someone's work, of course, but just to look at to make sure you're headed in the right direction.

I used google to try to find good wings, and honestly after looking for a while i came across yours and was happy it was on deviant art. :) I don't steal though. I've dealt with that myself before. I wouldn't want someone else to deal with the matter just because I lack the ability to just draw them without having them look like they're completely out of proportion. thanks so much for allowing me to use them as a reference. :D Helps me out a lot with making this drawing look great. :)

kapow! pow-powie!

It's a ballpoint pen. Probably one of the pens I stole from the bank.

Just a ballpoint pen?!! what paper do you use? (sorry if I'm asking too many questions.)

ha nah that's fine. Yeah, just ballpoint. I mean, I did a loose pencil drawing first. The paper is pretty much regular computer paper. I like to use the bright white laser paper because of the way it takes pencil and resists smudges.

I love the concept. I'm just now starting to accept the fact that, 'omg, dinos had FEATHERS?' The little kid in me refuses to believe it, but I know it to be true. Fortunately, it looks awesome, and I like how you applied that to a dragon.

I like your explanations on this one, both of the "how I did it" and the "what it can do" variety. So too, the concept of Giants most likely came from the ancient Greek's discovery of mammoth fossils on one of their many islands.

(But it would be nice to maintain the belief that with so many cultures across the world having dragons, that dragons did wander the earth once upon a time... Woe is reality for me. lol.)

Is that how dragon legends came to be? Does that mean that every civilization across the world found dinosaur bones since dragons have been in European and Chinese myths? I like this griffin-ish dragon. Makes me think of the dinosaur that was very bird-like only I don't think it could fly.

Amen to that. XD I used to draw dinosaurs a lot, and when my art teacher told us to draw a dragon, I had to use my knowledge of dinosaurs to draw it. XD And now a lot of people mistake my dragons for dinosaurs... :/
