Hunter by hibbary Hunter by hibbary
This is a very silly painting for a few reasons. This animal's forefeet weren't made for gripping and, even if they were, a predator made to hunt with natural weapons wouldn't need a spear. (Nevermind their brains not being wired to fabricate stone tools)

But, by gar, I felt like drawing a dromaeosaur with a spear. The really beautiful thing about art is that it doesn't always have to make sense.

What if they were to design a spear that fit their body plan? Rested over the back and shoulder with a spade-like end for using the body as leverage and the claws only for moving the position of the head? Or spears and tools designed to be used by utilizing the mouth as a manipulator like other birds?

Peck action sewing kit. Aw yissss

At first, I thought it was a Velociraptor, but then read the description :D
This one is awesome, too! You know how to emphasize the different textures so they look as much realistic as possible. I still work on this stage, but I hope I'll learn from artists like you. :aww:

Congrats!

Might actually be more realistic than you might think. Ever heard of the hypothetical Dinosauroid? While Russel's model made in the 80s was way too human looking, most paleontologists would agree that a true sapient Dinosaur would not look much different from a "standard" Dinosaur. So it would work as a Dinosauroid.

And hey, not oly is is a nice piece of art, it is still far more realistic than some other Dinosaur Art one finds on DA...

Oh man... Dinosaur snobs are the absolute worst. I don't mind dinosaur enthusiasts who politely point out errors, but when they start to get super uppity about fantasy artwork I just want to grab them and shake them.

Yeah... I understand that they love dinosaurs and all, and I'm all for scientific accuracy, but its fantasy. You don't see them overreacting over any other exaggeration of reality.

Well, that's the ludicrous thing about a lot of the aggressive dinosaur enthusiasts I run into. They turn a single archaeological find into some kind of dinosaur religion. Any good scientist with sense would say: Well, we found a lot of evidence that suggest this particular species of dinosaur had feathers.

And that's all it means. That that one species, possibly those closely related to it, had feathers during one portion of their evolution.

The dinosaur snobs then take this finding and begin jumping all over every artist who draws a raptoresque dinosaur in nothing but skin in spite of the fact that we have no evidence suggesting that ALL dromaeosaurs had feathers. The assumption is anti-scientific.

So that's my major beef. I like science because it doesn't make sweeping claims about things for which it has little evidence. People who claim to use science while ignoring the scientific method are kind of missing the point.

As I side note, I have to say that I respect and admire dinosaur artists who work as hard as they can to be scientifically accurate with their own work. It's when they start trying to dictate other people's worth that I get annoyed.
