Me, Ki, and Gimli by hibbary Me, Ki, and Gimli by hibbary
I've had this rabbit for almost two and a half months and just called him 'bunny' until a name struck me. (His old name was Waffle, which was fine, but I like to give animals new names when they become part of my family). He's a lionhead and has this wild hair and amazing muttonchops/beard and finally it coalesced. Gimli. Yes. Ground-dwelling, digging, bearded critter.

Gimli used to belong to my ex-roommate. When he moved out I offered to take the rabbit because I knew that he'd be super busy with a new wife and infant on the way. He already worked a day job and the bun didn't get out much. The rabbit was given to him by a crazy girlfriend. (Word to the wise, animals NEVER make good surprise gifts unless you absolutely know the person is looking for a pet and has the resources and temperament to care for them. I'm always horrified when I see animals being given away as prizes for whatever.)

The bunny was never abused and rarely startled so he hasn't been at all aggressive or fearful and was handled enough that being touched didn't bother him. Frankly, he's the most well-mannered rabbit that I've ever met, though shy of noises (which is just the way lionheads tend to be). At first he didn't understand fresh green food or socializing but now he demands greens and wants only to sit in your lap and groom you. As soon as he sits down, Ki, the cat, sees that laps are accepting occupants and must also partake.

Ki was a street cat living in Oklahoma City. A friend discovered her outside her parents house, after talking to the neighbors, found out that she had no home and had been on the streets for at least a few months. So she brought her to me.

Ki is a weird cat who loves to sleep on shoulders like stole and enjoys making prolonged eye contact. I've never had a cat who liked gazing into someone's face. She's uncommonly good at reading expressions and has a very wide vocabulary. She also comes to you when she's called.

That poor towel is an art towel and has textile dye all over it :P Also my crazy blue pajama pants. Also my crazy hair!!

I will now gush about how both of my animals are my darling babies and I love them forever! They are my darling babies! I love them forever! My little blobs.

This is probably one of the stranger comments you've ever had, but your hair looks extremely much like mine.

Weird.

But true.

I never really saw the point in having a rabbit as a pet;
They're afraid of EVERYTHING, they require a too much maintenance, they're fragile, and they don't seem all that bright. (Then again, I was bit by a rabbit as a young child...)

Meh, I grew up in a house full of children, cats, and a great, big, wolfdog. I suppose my opinion would be kinda slanted.

I wish the three of you all the happiness in the world.

I would never purchase a rabbit for the same reasons. But an animal doesn't not deserve to be re-homed because it isn't an ideal pet. They do take some getting used to. In personality I'd say they're more like rats than anything, but spookier. I used to ride horses and they're fuckin' stupid about perceived threats, unless you luck out and get one who doesn't give a fig. The difference between them and a rabbit is that they can kill you trying to get away from 'tha danger' ha ha ha ha. My ideal pet is definitely a cat. :F I get *very* tired of prey animals thinking everything is out to get them.

But aaanyway, Gimli is the least-temperamental, most affectionate rabbit I've ever met so he's alright in my books. I've known a lot of shitty, mean rabbits. Those are especially terrible pets.

:D That's a funny photo. When I saw the thumbnail I thought you had a Main Coon with a bushy tail. xD I'm surprised that your cat hasn't tried hunting the rabbit.

But then my parents had a dog, big guy, who used to jump into the cage of the baby rabbits (they used to breed them), lay down and let the rabbits crawl all over him. He even ate from the same bowl like them. :D

Reminds me of my one dog and adopted rabbit (both sadly passed). After I brought my bunny Marbles home, she viciously beat up two very large dogs and chased them up the couch, they were best friends and would cuddle up next to each other and chase each other around the house.

For a long time, the cat was more terrified of the rabbit than the other way around. Granted, it was a new house for her, but still.

Ki (the cat) really is very sweet. I'm sure if we let her out she might bring back the occasional bird but otherwise she's not very predatory at all :P

My one cat would probably just want to groom it all day... once she got over her terror of the monstrous bunny invading the house.

lol my two(a mini rex named Joey and a Main Coon named Angel) were great friends, Joey was full grown by the time Angel came around so the cat grew up with the bunny and they used to chase each other all over my room. Still the funniest sight was seeing this little furball rabbit chase a huge furry kitten that was easily 3x his size. All in good fun though :) I miss them both terribly T.T

You're two are adorable and love you lots :) I'm glad they have someone like you to care for them.

My friend had a goofy story about her roommate owning both a cat and a rabbit and the rabbit used to chew bald patches in the cat's fur HA HA HA! He didn't seem to mind.

What happened to your critters? Did they kick it? :( I find it terribly depressing how most furry friends have such short lives compared to our own.

I couldn't keep the rabbit and when we moved my cat (who was used to being an indoor/outdoor cat) was tired of staying outside and busted out and I never saw him again :( I miss them both though I have two wonderful buddies now another cat I gave to my bf who I'm still with named Squishi and a ferret named Belle. They both chase each other around so all I hear is the cat's bell and the ferret noise and pounding of feet ^^

I have never seen a cat and a rabbit together like that before... Our cats grew to learn to tolerate our dog (and even play with him a bit when they feel like it) so I guess co-existance is possible. Their sides look cute ^^

My cat is a super dork. Whatever hunting instincts she has are either greatly reduced or are reserved for anything incredibly small. She didn't have any inclination to kill my rat, either, while he was alive.

They aren't really good friends and she'll slap him when she's annoyed but neither does she want to murder and eat him. :D

^^ One of our cats does that to the dog (slap him I mean) when she's had enough of his antics but with her, it's usually a smack (she was a stray that we took in). It's funny though because she'll come seek us out when we're on a walk in the morning and follow us...

Your pets are most adorable! Thanks for sharing =)

Our cat (former stray kitten) is very domesticated as well. Since she didn't grow up with our dogs, they tend to play too rough with her, and she hides from them until they lose interest

awww, poor kitty. :P Yeah. Sometimes animals just have trouble communicating! It's definitely easiest if you get both species as children and they can get used to each other as they grow up. I doubt my cat would like rambunctious dogs, either. :P She's never really encountered a dog. She *hates* other cats with a passion (I'm sure it's a territorial thing) but gets used to other animals eventually.
