To outdo my funky mood, I plunked myself down for a few hours to just... draw something. This is an idea I've had for a while--an athro fox using mad camouflage powers. I had wanted to paint it, but instead of getting myself into another huge project I'd lose steam on, I decided to play my strengths and just build it up in pencil. I may paint it later; I dunno. I also plan to work on this a little more and flesh out some details.

You mentioned that this only took you a few hours... but the real question is: how many YEARS of training did it take you to ascend to such a level?

I have enjoyed this piece for a long time, but only recently added it to my favorites.

Though I have little experience with art, I must say this is an extraordinarily beautiful drawing.

One question though, if I may:

How did you know how to detail the fur? Were you looking at pictures of foxes, or does such detail simply come naturally to you? I have noticed that in this piece, as well as your anthro love one (with the otters(I think they are otters), since I fail to remember the name currently), you have this... wonderful ability... to make the fur seem real. The areas where the different colored fur blends on animals(ie neck, shoulders, legs) are so perfect in how you made the fur seem rougher there, exactly like it is in reality.

I also must say that I am jealous of your ability to draw canine-based(vulpine in this case) muzzles, since I have such trouble getting the correct lines down on paper.

I really love this piece, and would enjoy seeing more in the future.

I apologize for typing basically a story here; I meant only to comment and ask a single question, but it seems I got rather sidetracked... XP

Very Respectfully,

Vesper

Training? Serious training? None, really. Sort of hap-hazard training? Oh, all my life. Pencil is sort of my weapon of choice, but people go for color so I usually do color.

As for the fur, I wasn't looking at anything at the time, but I had just gotten into the idea of being more serious about fur detail. And because it was pencil, I could sit down and do that without worrying about color.

I don't mind 'stories' :3 I like them better than 'cool' and 'great!' and thigns like that. Thanks for the comment!

Whoa, you gotta give yourself a nice long pat on the back for this little piece. The way the fox fades into the "wood"work is gorgeous and subtle. You don't cheat by making him partially invisible. I just love how you can see the rest of his body (particularly his tail) if you pay close enough attention to where everything fades.

Also gotta wonder what he's thinking with that smug smile. Is he just having a giggle at the raised eyebrows his freaky camo skillz causes, or is he up to something more sinister? A drawing this good warrants a story (sadly, I don't think I'm the one to tell it).

Holy crap, how does he do that? That's some really good penciling skills if you can make a character fade into something like that.

i love the way you captured the transparency of the fox within the image.
