snow leopard by hibbary snow leopard by hibbary
The rule of this painting was that I could only use my number 2 whitewash brush. A size comparison can be seen here:

The painting took between a half hour and an hour. Done in acrylic on 9" by 7" paper

Stunning artwork!!! I like the nature of the excercise, but I doubt anyone could have done it with such a great result! I like how your detailed style still comes through in the few brushmarks

Considering I'm not much of a painter, I wouldn't for the life of me know what kind of challenge it was, but the result is beautiful <:

Kind of like artists that paint detailed scenes with a pallet knife. Interesting challenge you set for yourself and an impressive result!

Yes! I've never done the palette knife painting because paint is so precious and I am so miserly. :F

And oil paint, especially, is not cheap.

Nooooo never :( Unless it's totally crap paint. And even that isn't cheap. Just cheap by comparison. Makes me say: Van Gough. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING USING ALL THAT PAINT?

Maybe it was just cheaper back then? ;P Inflation and all that.

BLahrahugdsha using that brush gave you some really nice marks. Was it frustrating using such a large, solitary brush? Or did it just sort of work from the start?

I'd never done anything like this before, so there was a learning curve. Usually I start big (not this big) and work my way down to some of the tiniest brushes I have. So when it started getting into the detail work, I had to keep telling myself just to let it go and leave it vague.

Definitely. It's always good to mix up the art process. Even if the outcome isn't great, it stretches the brain.

Wow. I think this is wonderfully detailed for the size of brush you used.

Now I can't help but think of a whole wall done like this. It would be beyond grand.

I kind of like it, too. I might start using the style as underpaintings for more detailed work.
